Bogus selection and cronysm hits Harambee Stars
KENYANS have no confidence with the current Harambee Stars players since most of them are recycled materials while majority are above 25 years, National Youth coach Bob Oyugi has said.
He said recycling of players in the National soccer team will always yield poor results and Kenya's ambition of brushing shoulders with Africa elites and winning home and away matches will always be a piped dream. Oyugi who is the secretary General of the Kenya Football Coaches Association (Kefoca) said the best option is to overhaul the entire team and select a youthful side since the CHAN tournament is meant for locally based players. Oyugi said the same team which was bundled out in the World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches including the regional Cecafa tournament and several Asian and gulf friendly matches will never attain good results in the forthcoming Africa CHAN tournament. He said it was absurd for the same players who embarrassed Kenyans in previous matches to be assembled yet again while there were many youthful players who need to be gauged and tested especially in the Nationwide League. "Selection of players in the National team, Oyugi added, was biased since majority of players are above 25 years. They are even older than Dennis Oliech and MacDonald Mariga whom we claim to be our role models," The experienced football tactician said older players discourage young ones.”To be honest, the team needs to be dismantled. Our football rankings will continue to go down. We have good players in the Kenya premier, Nationwide League including provincial areas who can perform better than the current players in the Harambee Stars. Should we expect good results if the current players are the ones who embarrassed us during the senior Challenge Cup in Nairobi and the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches?" Wondered Oyugi He challenged Football Kenya Limited FKL (jointly referred to as "Wankers" by KenyaFootball.com) to put their act together since they have lost touch with modern football. He said it was unfair for Harambee Stars players to train at the poor Kasarani outer pitch whose surface looks like a grazing ground. "If I was coach Twahir Muhiddin, I cannot accept to allow players train in a poor surface like what I saw in the television. This will result to players incurring unnecessary injuries. We have better adjacent grounds like Kenya school of Monitory studies (KSMS), KCB and Utalii Grounds which can serve better purpose”. said Oyugi. Ends.
